What it means to be a Public Power Utility

Keys Energy Services is a public power utility owned and operated by the citizens of Key West. Keys Energy Services provides an essential service at reasonable rates, designed to meet the special needs of our community. Public power systems like Keys Energy Services are non-profit.

Our only mission is to provide you with reliable electric service at reasonable rates. There are no dividends to pay to out-of-state stockholders. All the benefits of our locally-controlled electric utility remain here in the community.

A Utility Board elected by the people of Key West decides how to operate Keys Energy Services. Local control gives everyone a say in how our utility can best meet community needs. Community ownership of electric service guarantees local people working together to meet local needs, such as energy conservation, environmental concerns, economic development and other services of local government.
