UTILITY BOARD RECOGNIZES HURRICANE HERMINE RESTORATION CREW

09/29/2016 ~ The Utility Board recently recognized five individuals from Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Transmission & Distribution (T&D) department for their work in assisting with Hurricane Hermine restoration efforts in north Florida.

Journeymen Linemen Paul Sanchez, Herschell Major, and Manny Estevez, and Apprentice Linemen Marlon Briones and Bill Drager, were lauded for their tireless efforts in helping to restore power to residents in Gainesville and Tallahassee in early September. The strong winds and torrential rains of Hurricane Hermine downed countless power lines and poles through north Florida. Utility crews from throughout Florida and surrounding states helped to restore power and light the path to recovery for affected residents.

Utility Board Chair Peter Batty added in his remarks that he would, “be remiss if I did not take a moment to also thank their co-workers in the T&D department for stepping up local efforts in their absence, and the families they left behind for over a week.” He added that, “your tireless efforts and stellar work are a true testament to you and KEYS.”

In other business, the Board:

- Approved the renewal of Property, General Liability, Automobile Liability, Physical Damage Compensation/Collision, and Worker’s Compensation Insurance with Preferred Governmental Insurance Trust (PGIT), which includes wind coverage administered by Public Risk Underwriters, Inc., in the amount of $482,883, and the renewal of Equipment Breakdown Insurance with Hartford Steam Boiler, in the amount of $104,533 for a total estimated amount of $587,416.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 28th, in the Board Room of Keys Energy Services’ Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West
