UTILITY BOARD APPROVES PURCHASE OF TRANSFORMERS

03/09/2017 ~ The Utility Board awarded a unit price contract for the purchase of approximately 34 pole and 22 padmount transformers at their regular meeting on March 8th.

The contracts were awarded to vendors: Anixter ($20,507.00), Stuart C. Irby ($65,906.09), and Wesco ($45,146.00) for a total estimated cost of $131,569.09. The selection of the transformers was based upon the Total Owning Costs (TOC), a transformer calculation that extrapolates the total projected costs over a 20-year life, in addition to unit cost, efficiency, energy costs, and losses. Transformers are electrical devices used to increase or decrease the alternating voltages in electric power applications.

In other business the Board awarded a contract for soil disposal at the Key West Diesel Plant and Substation to ADS Services, Inc. for a cost of $35,840. Due to recent major upgrades at the site, excess soil from the substation could not be redistributed on the property. The scope of work will be to excavate, load, haul, and dispose of approximately 400 cubic yards of soil and transport to an approved landfill facility.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 8th, in the Board Room of Keys Energy Servicesí Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West
