04/06/2017 ~ Keys Energy Services (KEYS) recently cut the ribbon to its renovated Fleets and Facilities center in the Ralph Garcia Building at its Stock Island Generating Facility, 6900 Front Street – Extended, on Wednesday, April 5th. The ceremony marked the completion of the $3.2-million renovation project that was completed ahead of schedule and on budget.

Bender & Associates designed the project and Biltmore Construction Company acted as the Construction Manager at Risk for the project. The scope of work included accommodating the relocation of KEYS’ Fleets section, relocating the wash bay facility, providing a workshop for KEYS’ Facilities section, relocating the Generation department work and stock rooms, demolishing the existing garage, and updating the wash bay.

“This project provided KEYS with a great opportunity to utilize space where our steam plant used to be,” said KEYS’ General Manager & CEO Lynne Tejeda. “Instead of building a brand new facility, KEYS saved millions of dollars by repurposing an existing building.”

The project also included installing 75-kilowatts* of solar on the roof of the building utilizing $550,000 of KEYS’ British Petroleum settlement funding. The power generated by the solar panels will be used to power the Ralph Garcia Building.

*Kilowatt - A unit of power equal to 1,000 watts.
