04/27/2017 ~ Keys Energy Services (KEYS) recently sponsored an energy conservation art contest for all elementary school students in the Lower Florida Keys. One overall winner and two winners from each grade level were selected from over 2,000 entries to grace the pages of KEYS 21st annual Energy Conservation calendar. The winners attended the April 26th Utility Board meeting and were recognized for their efforts.

The overall winner was Remedy Machus, a kindergarten student from the Basilica School. Her artwork will be featured on the cover of KEYS’ nationally recognized 2017-2018 calendar. The winning artists whose work will illustrate each of the 12 months are: (Kindergarten) Sebastien Davis & Stella Tutlewski; (First Grade) Jalynn Barreto & Allison DeLuca; (Second Grade) Nico Neidlinger & Analy Rivero; (Third Grade) Elishka Balmaceda & Christopher Winemiller; (Fourth Grade) Kylie Francis & Raquel Martinez; (Fifth Grade) Mckayla Annylus & Scarlet Niles.

KEYS’ Energy Conservation calendars will be made available to KEYS’ customers in August.

In other business, the Utility Board awarded the contract for the installation of an electrically non-conductive perimeter fence and cantilever gate at the Key West Diesel Electrical Substation in the Old Town Section of Key West to U.S. Fence & Gate, Inc. for a total cost of $65,110. The installation of the new fence and gate will meet the National Electrical Safety Code.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 26th, in the Board Room of Keys Energy Services’ Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West
