07/05/2017 ~ Keys Energy Services (KEYS) advises its customers that aerial drone inspections of the transmission lines in Key West are scheduled to be conducted on Friday, July 7th, through Sunday, July 23rd, from 8:00A to 8:00P daily – weather permitting.

KEYS has been unable to conduct helicopter-based inspections of the transmission lines within the city of Key West due to the high residential population that would be affected by the low flight pattern. To assist with inspections, KEYS recently awarded a contract to Advanced Aerial Inspection Resources, Inc. (AAIR), for an estimated cost of $54,560, to utilize aerial drone technology to inspect the transmission lines in Key West. The use of aerial drones will help save on costs as well as pose less of an inconvenience to the public given the high density.

KEYS customers should be aware of the aerial drone flying close to transmission lines throughout Key West during the two-week inspection period. Additionally, residents are advised to drive safely while this work is in progress, and keep their focus on the road and not the drone flying overhead. Any repairs that are identified by the aerial drone inspections will be completed by KEYS’ crews.

“These inspections are required in order to maintain the reliability of our system,” said Lynne Tejeda, KEYS’ General Manager & CEO. She went on to add that, “the exposure of our system to the Florida Keys environment requires constant maintenance in order to reliably power paradise.”
