07/18/2017 ~ Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Stock Island Generation Facility was recently awarded the Highly Protected Risk (HPR) award from FM Global, the insurer for KEYS’ Generation Facility, for achieving the highest level of risk protection.

The award is based on the completion of FM Global recommendations and other risk mitigation measures. As a result of this award, all Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) owned generating sites in Florida are now considered HPR facilities.

KEYS imports the majority of its power supply from mainland Florida and is a member of FMPA’s All-Requirements project. As a member of FMPA, KEYS pools its generating facilities and its power supply requirements with 12 other municipal utilities in the state. Together the utilities work to keep costs down for customers.

KEYS’ Generation Facility is able to supply 60-percent of local peak power needs in the event power from mainland Florida is unavailable. The current production output for the facility is 111 megawatts.

*Megawatt: equivalent to one million watts.
