07/19/2017 ~ Utility Board Chair Peter Batty recently met with United States Congressman Carlos Curbelo in Washington, D.C. to discuss the preservation of tax-exempt financing for public power utilities, solar distributed generation, and grid security. Batty was in Washington for meetings of the American Public Power Associationís (APPA) Policy Makers Council (PMC).

The PMC is made up of locally elected and appointed officials from public power communities across the country. Its mission is to assist APPA in moving legislation forward that is important to public power electric utilities nationwide.

Batty was tapped by APPA in 2016 to serve a three year term as a member of its PMC. He has served on the Utility Board since 2005 and has been its Chair since 2013. The APPA is a collection of more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities, serving 14-percent of the nationís electricity consumers.
