KEYS STEFAN WASHINGTON TO RETIRE AFTER 30-YEARS OF SERVICE

10/26/2017 ~ On November 3, 2017, Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Stefan J. Washington, will retire after 30-years of continuous service to the Utility.

Washington was originally hired in 1987 when the Utility was named City Electric System. During his tenure he held the positions of Auxiliary Operator Oiler and General Helper prior to completing his career as a Tree Trimmer within the Transmission & Distribution department.

Recalling the biggest changes he has witnessed over the years, Washington highlighted the decommissioning of the steam plant and transferring generation from Key West to the current Stock Island location. When asked about his most memorable experience at KEYS Washington recalled, “the group of guys from the old days that taught me throughout the years. They took their time and had patience when training. Some of those were: Tommy Gomez, Raymond Gomez, Terry Roberts, Jack Hake, Stevie Pereira, Kevin Lewis, Carli Parks, Alfred Hall, Alberic Jamerson, Eddy Lepperd, Steve Rodriguez, L.T. Curry, Ralph A. Garcia Sr., Jim Raymond, Eddie Williams, Jimmy Noland, Mark Garcia, Chris Jolly, James McClendon, Bryan Veliz, and Roger George.”

In discussing the secret to his longevity he attributed it to, “staying true to myself, setting goals, and working hard as a team player so we all reach our goals and objectives with success.” In reminiscing about his time at KEYS Washington said he will miss the day-to-day interactions with co-workers.

In retirement Washington will be reuniting with the love of his life, Diana, and planning many trips and adventures to spend more time with his children and grandchildren. Washington also hopes to indulge in his love of fishing, dominoes, and cigars. After a 30-year career at KEYS, he has earned the right to enjoy the next chapter of his life to the fullest.
