06/01/2004 ~ The Utility Board adopted the 2004-2005 Mission and Business Priorities, and allowed Keys Energy Services (KEYS) staff to develop a working plan and budget that supports them.

The Board and KEYS staff recently participated in a Strategic Planning session designed to review the utility’s mission and identify business priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.

During the annual two-day session, participants identified goals for each of the six business priorities, which were to: improve and maintain system reliability, improve customer service and customer relations, address issues of security, develop employee retention and recruitment programs, increase operational excellence and quality, and identify and investigate additional streams of revenue & “Horizon (new technology) issues”.

“These priorities will help shape the future of the utility by clearly defining KEYS desired position with regard to our mission,” said Carl Jansen, KEYS General Manager & CEO.

In other business, the Board:

- Approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) regarding the Power System Coordinator shift designation change from 8 hours to 12 hours. The change will help improve employee wellness and increase productivity.

- Approved the first amendment to the January 28, 2004, agreement with Transworld Network, Corporation to enable KEYS to begin providing data services to customers. Services include frame relay service, IP/VPN service, and internet services.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., May 26th, in the Louis Carbonell Board Room of the William Arnold Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West.
