06/10/2004 ~ The Utility Board authorized Keys Energy Services (KEYS) General Manager & CEO, Carl Jansen, to bind the renewal of the 2004/2005 Federal flood insurance with Fidelity National Property and Casualty Insurance Company through Key West Insurance Inc.

Federal flood insurance participation is required by the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) in order to meet requirements for disaster reimbursement.

The approximate cost of coverage for policy-year June 14, 2004, through June 14, 2005, is $102,537, which is an increase of $55,051, above the expiring policy premium of $47,486. Key West Insurance Inc. stated that this increase was related to the recently completed appraisal of KEYS’ buildings and their contents.

In other business, the Board:

- Approved resolution #720 to honor Charles A. Russell and to recognize the designation of the Charles A. Russell Generation Facility within Florida Keys Electric Cooperative’s (FKEC) service territory.

- Approved the reappointment of Emigdio Gil to the Career Service Council for an additional two-year term.

- Awarded the General Services Administration (GSA) Contract Purchase of one Ford F750 w/Altec AM55 Aerial Device, in the amount of $123,763, to Altec Industries.

- Approved the purchase of one Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) from Novatech, LLC. for the Key West Diesel substation in the amount of $30,500.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., June 9th, in the Louis Carbonell Board Room of the William Arnold Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West.
