07/06/2004 ~ Bryan Veliz, Journey Lineman, has been named Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Outstanding Employee of the Third Quarter for 2004.

Veliz has worked for the utility for 13 years and has held his current position within KEYS throughout most of his tenure. He is responsible for maintaining distribution and transmission power lines from 120 volts up to 138,000 volts; climbing poles and steel structures; and pulling standby, night, and storm duty.

Chuck Vinson, Assistant Director of Electrical Operations, said Veliz has, “always been a very dedicated, punctual, dependable, and safe worker, who is respectful to management and his fellow employees – a true asset to KEYS.”

Veliz says he enjoys his job because of the daily challenge it presents and the ability it affords him to work together with his co-workers.

The Employee of the Quarter Committee selects an employee four times a year for this award. Employees are considered for the award after being nominated by their peers or supervisors. Final selection of the outstanding employee is based on seven criteria, which include attendance, attitude, efficiency, initiative, and job performance.

Heather Arencibia, chairperson of the Employee of the Quarter Committee, said that Veliz was nominated by a fellow employee in his section, which the committee felt said a lot about him as a person and an employee. She added that his great attitude and dedication to KEYS helped to further secure his selection as the Employee of the Quarter.

Veliz was born and raised in Key West and graduated from Key West High School. He and his wife Yvette have two children, Joseph Bryan, 7, and Humberto Antonio, 4. In his spare time, Veliz enjoys spending time with his family and fishing.

The Utility Board will recognize Veliz as the Outstanding Employee of the Third Quarter for 2004 and present him with a $100 bonus during their regular meeting on July 14th. His name will be engraved on a plaque that hangs in the William Arnold Service Building lobby, and he will receive an extra day off.
