CONSTRUCTION CRANE CAUSES UPPER KEYS TIELINE OUTAGE

07/20/2004 ~ A construction crane hit the tieline at Tavernier in the Florida Keys Electric Cooperative (FKEC) service territory and resulted in a loss of power to all Keys Energy Services (KEYS) customers Tuesday afternoon. The transmission outage lasted 51 minutes.

KEYS customers lost power at 12:39 p.m. after the tieline was struck by a construction crane performing regular maintenance on the shield wire (protects energized lines from lightning) at Mile Marker 88. The tieline was reenergized 51 minutes later at 1:30 p.m.

Power to all KEYS customers was restored by 2:00 p.m.

KEYS regrets any inconveniences experienced as a result of this outage.
