10/13/2004 ~ The Utility Board of the City of Key West is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a recent vacancy on the Utility Board. The Board oversees Keys Energy Services (KEYS), the public power utility whose territory encompasses Key West to the Seven-Mile Bridge.
Interested candidates can pick up a candidate questionnaire at KEYS, or may call (305) 295-1001 to request a questionnaire. Questionnaires are to be returned to Carl Jansen, KEYS General Manager & CEO, by noon Friday, October 22, 2004.
The Board will appoint the most qualified candidate to serve the unfulfilled term in Group 4 during a public meeting on 10/27/04 at KEYS Service Building at 1001 James Street. Candidates must be registered to vote in the City of Key West.
Dr. Otha P. Cox filled the Group 4 position until October 4, 2004, when he passed away after 25 years of service to the Utility Board - the longest of any Board member in the utilities history. Dr. Cox was first elected to the Board in 1979 and at the time of his passing held the position of Vice Chairman.
Utility Board members serve a four-year term during which they attend twice monthly Board meetings, stay abreast of KEYS, State and Federal utility industry issues, and participate in various utility associations.
The appointed candidate will join current Board members: Robert R. Padron, Chairman; Lou Hernandez; Leonard H. Knowles, and Gayle Swofford.
