01/13/2005 ~ The Utility Board approved continuing the employee dental program as a self-insured program utilizing Preferred Benefit Administrator’s, Inc. (PBA), effective February 1, 2005. Additionally, all new enrollees after February 1, 2005, will experience a $2.00 increase in rates compared with those employees already enrolled in the program.

KEYS has been self-insuring its employee paid dental program since October 1, 2003. Local dentists have stated that the KEYS program is favorable compared to other dental programs on a fee-basis reimbursement schedule. The $2.00 increase in rates for new employees will cover PBA’s administrative cost to KEYS.

In other business, the Board:

- Approved Resolution 729 - A Resolution Amending Articles 8.01, 8.02, and 8.03 of the Retirement System for General Employees of the Utility Board of the City of Key West. The resolution removes Utility Board members as Trustees from the Pension Board; reduces the number of Trustees from 18 to 13; and changes the quorum requirements from ten to seven.

- Awarded the purchase of Mechanical and Programmable Meters and Instrument Transformers to Utilicor in the amount of $98,184.08, to Wesco in the amount of $94,747.68, and to Stewart Irby in the amount of $2,044.80.

- Approved the sole-source purchase of the five-year overhaul of Digger/Derrick truck #9 and Bucket truck #18 from Altec Industries, for an estimated cost of $50,193.00.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2005, in the Louis Carbonell Board Room of the William Arnold Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West.
