04/19/2005 ~ Jose Raul Del Rio, Apprentice Maintenance Mechanic, has been named Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Outstanding Employee of the Second Quarter for 2005.

Del Rio has worked for the utility for more than 24 years and prior to his current position, was a Security Guard and General Helper in the Key West Steam Plant. His main responsibilities include assisting the Maintenance Person in all aspects of the construction trade (i.e.: carpentry, masonry, plumbing, etc.) and performing lawn and grounds maintenance to all KEYS facilities.

Randy Roberts, Fleets/Facilities/Warehouse Supervisor, said Del Rio is, “a hard working employee who will do what ever is required of him.” He added that Del Rio, “has a positive attitude and gets along very well with his fellow employees.”

Del Rio says that he finds the fact that he always learns something new everyday very rewarding and enjoys the friendships he has forged with his co-workers throughout the years.

The Employee of the Quarter Committee selects an employee four times a year for this award. Employees are considered for the award after being nominated by their peers or supervisors. Final selection of the outstanding employee is based on several criterions, which include attendance, attitude, efficiency, initiative, and job performance, among others.

Del Rio was born in Las Villas, Cuba, and moved to Key West in 1971. He is a graduate of Key West High School and lives in Bay Point with his wife Gladys. In his spare time, Del Rio enjoys watching sports, walking his dog Rambo, and fishing off of the many bridges in the Florida Keys.

The Utility Board will recognize Del Rio as the Outstanding Employee of the Second Quarter for 2005 and present him with a $100 bonus during their regular meeting on April 27th. His name will be engraved on a perpetual plaque that hangs in the William Arnold Service Building lobby, and he will receive an extra day off.
