05/25/2005 ~ The Utility Board adopted Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) 2005-2006 Mission and Business Strategy Priorities and directed staff to develop a working plan and budget which supports their implementation.

The Utility Board and KEYS staff recently participated in a Strategic Planning Workshop designed to review KEYS’ mission and identify business strategy priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. During the workshop the participants reaffirmed KEYS Mission Statement to “provide exceptional customer service while supplying safe, secure, reliable electric and utility services at the best value.” Additionally, five business strategy priorities were identified along with related goals for each strategy. The five priorities identified included to:

- Implement a reliability plan to maintain system outage benchmarks that exceed industry levels.

- Achieve optimum levels of customer service.

- Identify, formulate and implement plans that will improve upon key employee issues.

- Investigate and develop implementation plans for new revenue sources in communications and land use.

- Maximize the benefits derived from the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) relationship.

In other business, the Board:

- Approved the renewal of KEYS’ 2005-2006 Federal Flood Insurance for the period of June 14, 2005, through June 14, 2006, with Fidelity National Property & Casualty Insurance Company, through Key West Insurance, Inc., at a total premium of $104,540.00.

- Awarded the contract for the upgrade of the electrical distribution system to Shaw Energy Delivery Services, Inc., for an estimated total cost of $309,554.11, their bid being the lowest and/or best bid complying with specifications.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., May 25th, in the Louis Carbonell Board Room of the William Arnold Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West.
