07/13/2005 ~ In the wake of Hurricane Dennis, the Utility Board was updated on the emergency expenditures issued for Hurricane Dennis and the restoration efforts that followed.

Keys Energy Services (KEYS) General Manager & CEO Carl R. Jansen reported that the initial costs for Hurricane Dennis total an estimated $827,000. Included in that amount is material and equipment which had to be purchased to make necessary repairs well-above the inventory KEYS normally keeps in stock. The above stated cost also includes the services that KEYS contracted to other utilities and private contractors to help aide in the swift restoration of power to KEYS customers.

In other business, the Board:

- Approved a “Memorandum of Understanding” with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers regarding the Power System Coordinator Shift designation change to a permanent 12-hour shift rotation.

- Awarded emergency change order #1 to the contract for utilities cable clearance tree trimming services with Asplundh Tree Expert Co., for an estimated total annual contract amount of $413,745. This contract will allow for two tree trimming crews and one leader to assist KEYS crews with tree trimming efforts.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., July 13th, in the Louis Carbonell Board Room of the William Arnold Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West.
