UTILITY BOARD APPROVES INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH MONROE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE

12/19/2005 ~ The Utility Board approved an agreement that allows Keys Energy Services (KEYS) to partner with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) for shared use of its radio system at its regular meeting on December 14th.

The Interlocal Agreement allows KEYS, along with the City of Key West’s Transportation Department and the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority, shared use of MCSO’s 800 MHz Trunked Radio System. The partnership will result in on-going cost savings for each government entity and the customers they serve, in addition to providing the public the safety of inter-operability.

The Utility Board praised KEYS staff and the staff of the MCSO for their efforts in developing an agreement that is beneficial to both KEYS ratepayers and Monroe County taxpayers.

The Board also approved the Florida state contract purchase of seven vehicles to replace those damaged by Hurricane Wilma. KEYS will save approximately $22,000.00 by purchasing these vehicles using Florida state contracts compared to purchasing from local and/or mainland vendors. Staff informed the Board that Hurricane Wilma totaled 19 vehicles thus far and as many as 20 additional vehicles may be totaled.

In other business, the Board:

- Approved the government contract purchase of control station dispatch equipment from Motorola associated with the radio system, in the amount of $338,328.88, and declared the existing equipment as surplus.

- Approved the purchase of Single Phase transformers from Central Maloney, for a total cost of $77,444.00.

- Approved the General Services Administration contract municipal five-year lease purchase of two bucket trucks and one tree trimming truck in the amount of $379,320.00, and declared the existing trucks as surplus.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 14th, in the Louis Carbonell Board Room of the William Arnold Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West.
