UTILITY BOARD APPROVES DISCONTINUANCE OF UPS & IN-LINE SURGE SUPRESSION SALES

04/27/2006 ~ The Utility Board approved the discontinuance of Keys Energy Servicesí (KEYS) UPS and In-Line Surge Suppression devices at their regular meeting on April 26th.

KEYS began the Power Sentry program to meet a need from customers who wanted a way to protect their computers and other electrical equipment. At the time, the products offered through the Power Sentry program were not readily available locally. A recent survey of area vendors by KEYS Staff indicated KEYS is no longer selling units at a competitive price.

The Board agreed to the discontinuance, however, KEYS will continue to sell and install Meter Treater products, surge suppression devices installed at the meter, under the Power Sentry program. The Meter Treater is a suppression device not readily available, and one which must be installed by KEYS personnel.

The Board also approved changes to the tariff section of the Customer Services Policy Manual, concerning line extension charges for primary and high voltage underground facilities, effective April 27, 2006.

The changes will allow the tariff to be tied to costs which are included in the current awarded contract. In doing so, the tariff will not change each time the contract expires and is either renewed or re-bid.

In other business, the Board:

- Approved the temporary hiring of a General Helper for the Generation
Department for a not-to-exceed period of six-months of employment.

- Approved the purchase of a bucket truck from Altec Industries, Inc., in the amount of $131,517.00, to replace one damaged by Hurricane Wilma.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday April 26th, in the Louis Carbonell Board Room of the William Arnold Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West.
