KENNEDY DRIVE SUBSTATION RENOVATION TO ENHANCE RELIABILITY

05/08/2006 ~ Keys Energy Servicesí (KEYS) is overseeing renovations to the Kennedy Drive Substation in an ongoing effort to enhance the reliability of its electrical system.

The main component of the renovation is the replacement of a mid-1960s Switchgear Building. The Switchgear Building houses the breakers for the substation whose purpose is to open, or break, the voltage/current to a set of distribution lines in the event of a fault on an electrical line. The quick action of the breaker prevents damage to the line and surrounding areas where the fault occurred.

Due to the size of the new Switchgear Building, permits could not be obtained from the Florida Department of Transportation to transport via U.S. Highway 1. As a result, the building was shipped via barge from Miami.

The total project cost of the Kennedy Drive Substation renovations is $650,000. KEYS anticipates the renovations will be complete in time for the 2006 Hurricane Season.
