UTILITY BOARD RECOGNIZES CALENDAR ART CONTEST WINNERS

05/25/2006 ~ Keys Energy Services (KEYS) recently sponsored an Energy Conservation Art Contest for all elementary school students in the Lower Florida Keys. One overall winner and two winners from each grade level were selected to grace the pages of KEYS annual calendar.

The overall winner was Larissa Faith Laferriere, a Second Grader from Poinciana Elementary school. Her artwork will be featured on the cover of the 2006-2007 Energy Conservation Calendar. The winners of the artwork that will grace each of the 12 months are:

Kindergarten:
Nicole Bravo & Blake Forsythe

First Grade:
Morgan Paige Bentley & Carlie Meehan

Second Grade:
Mallory Rose Cerkleski & Jeniffer Galvez

Third Grade:
Morgan Denhart & Nena Guzman

Fourth Grade:
Andrea Brooke Kresser & Queenie Tabag

Fifth Grade:
Ansley Alberto & Yasemin Beste Unal

The 13 winners attended the May 24th regularly scheduled Utility Board meeting and were recognized for their efforts. All of the winners were presented with a certificate and a $50 U.S. Savings Bond, in addition to having their artwork featured in KEYS’ 2006-2007 Energy Conservation Calendar.

In other business, the Board:

- Cancelled the June 14, 2006, Utility Board meeting due to the American Public Power Association Annual Conference.

- Approved the renewal of KEYS’ 2006-2007 Federal flood insurance for June 15, 2006 through June 14, 2007, with Fidelity National Property & Casualty Insurance company through Key West Insurance, Inc. at a total premium of $101,306.

- Approved a resolution effective June 1, 2006, to provide health, life, and long-term disability benefits for new hire/probationary employees to take effect on the 31st day of continuous full-time employment. Currently new hires must wait for a six month probationary period to expire before insurance benefits are activated.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 24th, in the Louis Carbonell Board Room of the William Arnold Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West.
