KEYS’ POWER COST ADJUSTMENT CHARGE SET TO DECREASE

07/31/2006 ~ Lower natural gas prices have enabled a decrease in Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) charge. The PCA decrease will be reflected in the August billing cycle.

For the average residential customer consuming 1000 kilowatt hour’s* (kWh) it will mean a $10.00 decrease on their total bill from $140.90 to 130.90.

As a member of the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA), a nonprofit organization that supplies the wholesale power needs of 15 municipal electric utilities in Florida, KEYS is subject to fluctuations of FMPA’s wholesale energy rate - which are then passed on to its customers.

“With an especially hot summer far from being over, this decrease in the PCA should be much welcomed by KEYS customers,” said Lynne Tejeda, KEYS General Manager & CEO.

KEYS expects a further decrease in the PCA in October if natural gas prices hold steady. This anticipated decrease will help to offset a proposed base rate increase during that same time period. With the projected decreases in the PCA and the proposed rate increase, KEYS customers may experience a net decrease in their monthly energy bills by October.

Note: A kWh is a common unit of electric energy consumption, and the basic unit of electric energy. One kWh is equivalent to 1,000 watts consumed over a period of one hour.
