11/28/2006 ~ Keys Energy Services (KEYS) advises its customers that a helicopter survey of the Transmission line will be conducted the week of December 4th, along U.S. Highway 1, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., from Marathon to Key West. The survey, which was originally scheduled to take place in August, was rescheduled due to Tropical Storm/Hurricane Ernesto.

The purpose of this survey is to perform a visual inspection of poles, hardware, lines, and insulators on the Transmission line between Key West and Marathon. The results of this survey will help in the scheduling of repairs, if needed, to keep the Transmission line at its maximum capacity and integrity. A similar helicopter survey was last conducted in December of 2004.

KEYS customers should be aware of the possibility of dust and sand that may be dispersed in the air due to the downward thrust from the helicopter. Those customers with property near U.S. Highway 1 should place garbage cans, lawn furniture, and light weight objects indoors. Additionally, residents are advised to drive safely while this survey is in progress, and keep their focus on the road and not the helicopter flying overhead.
