UTILITY BOARD APPROVES RELIABILITY IMPROVEMENTS

02/15/2007 ~ The Utility Board approved over $7.8-million in reliability improvements to Keys Energy Services (KEYS) electric system at their regular meeting on Wednesday, February 14th.

As part of KEYS general system refurbishment and ongoing efforts to continually improve the reliability of electric service, the Board:

- Awarded the purchase of electrical substation high voltage materials to Wesco Distribution, Inc., Stewart C. Irby, Utilicor, and RS Sales, Inc., with an estimated cost of $4,762,447.00. These materials will be used for various substation improvement projects throughout KEYS Service Area.

- Awarded the bid for electric utility distribution class concrete poles to Utilities Structures, Inc., for an estimated five year contract amount of $3,136,365.78. The concrete poles will replace approximately 3,075 wood poles throughout KEYS Distribution System, with approximately 615 poles being replaced per year.

In other business, the Board:

- Approved KEYS’ annual audit and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the Fiscal Year ended September 30, 2006.

- Approved the payment to the City of Key West in the amount of $341,279.00 for the Fiscal Year ended September 30, 2006. Additionally, KEYS provided in-kind services to the City in the amount of $364,415.77 during Fiscal Year 2006.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday February 14th, in the Louis Carbonell Board Room of the William Arnold Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West.
