04/27/2007 ~ In a continuing effort to beautify the community and bring art in to local neighborhoods, Keys Energy Services (KEYS) and Sculpture Key West recently unveiled a new sculpture at KEYS’ Alvin Frazier III Memorial Park, on the corner of Flagler Avenue and Eighteenth Street.

Derek Arnold’s Giant Key West Chicken, 2007 was placed in the park in an ongoing partnership with Sculpture Key West and their art in the community program.

Arnold is an artist based out of White Hall, Maryland, and constructed this 15-foot tall sculpture utilizing cast-off vehicle parts. The sculpture is modeled after a real-life Key West chicken named ‘Spirit’ which was given to the artist as inspiration by The Chicken Store on Duval Street.

The sculpture will remain on display in the Pocket Park for up to a year before it migrates to a more permanent installation.

The Alvin Frazier III Memorial Park is one of three such parks that have been converted by KEYS from outdated substations into spaces for the community and surrounding neighborhoods to enjoy. The Alvin Frazier III Memorial Park, along with the Grinnell Street Pocket Park, feature sculptures for the visual enjoyment of the community.
