08/07/2007 ~ The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) recently recognized Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Utility Board Chairman Robert Padron with the E.C. Shreve Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual conference in Palm Beach, Florida.

A 34-year veteran of KEYS, Padron received the award amid much applause. “It is indeed an honor to accept this recognition,” said Padron. “FMEA is a leader in Florida’s energy industry and I am proud to be part of an organization that works so hard to advance public power utilities.”

Padron has served on the FMEA Board of Directors since 1996, including a 2003-2004 term as FMEA president. “Bob Padron’s contributions to Florida’s energy industry are immense,” said Barry Moline, FMEA’s executive director. “An advocate for training and safety, Bob constantly guides Florida’s public power utilities in a positive direction.”

Padron’s contributions include protecting public power in the face of the electric industry’s de-regulation, support of training and safety programs such as the lineman’s competition, and generously lending resources to other public power systems in need after being hit by hurricanes. Serving on the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) board of directors from 1993 to 2002 and as chairman of its Policy Maker’s Council in 2000 and 2001, Padron received many industry awards, including the APPA’s Spence Vanderlin Public Official award and FMEA Member of the Year award.

FMEA represents the unified interests of 34 public power communities across the state, which provides electricity to more than three-million of Florida’s residential and business consumers.
