03/04/2008 ~ Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) communications/marketing coordinator Julio J. Barroso was recently invited to speak to School of Communication students at the University of Miami (UM) for the school’s Communication Week 2008.

Barroso participated on the “Integrating into the Public Relations Profession” panel with fellow UM alumni Rebeca Clero, marketing account manager for Evercare, and Jorge Martinez, vice president of The Conroy Martinez Group in Miami. The session was moderated by Colee Splichal, faculty lecturer in public relations at UM.

The panelists spoke on how the field of public relations is changing and the adjustments new professionals may have to make. They also addressed the importance of internships, jobs, and other hands-on public relations experiences to the capacity crowd of undergraduate students and faculty.

“Communication Week is a rare and crucial opportunity for students to learn from real-world sources who not too long ago were sitting in their seats, literally,” said Donn Tilson, Ph.D., associate professor in the public relations program and organizer of the Public Relations panels for Communication Week. “It’s also an opportunity for our school to celebrate the success and showcase the talent of our alumni.”

Barroso graduated from UM in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Communication. He double-majored in Public Relations and International Studies, and minored in Marketing. He has been employed by KEYS since October 2003.
