04/10/2008 ~ The Key West Sunset Rotary recently raised $500 with a Rotary District Grant and earmarked the funds to landscape the Patterson Avenue Pocket Park.

Working with members of the City’s Landscape department, the Sunset Rotary members spent five weekends landscaping the park, which was badly damaged after Hurricane Wilma, for the enjoyment of the community.

The Patterson Avenue Pocket Park was the site of a 1950s-era substation prior to its conversion to a Pocket Park by Keys Energy Services (KEYS) and the City of Key West.

This is one of four substations KEYS has turned in to a Pocket Park. The three other parks are located on the corners Flagler Avenue & 18th Street; Grinnell & Angela streets; and Louisa Street & Calais Lane. KEYS retired these substations because they utilized outdated technology, and could not carry the electrical loads of newer, upgraded substations.
