12/05/2008 ~ Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Customer Services department has received reports of individuals impersonating KEYS’ personnel and requesting collection of energy bill payments at the homes of customers.

KEYS’ customers should note that the utility will only accept energy bill payments in Customer Services centers in Key West (1001 James Street) or Big Pine Key (13 Ships Way), via the web at, or by phone at (305) 295-1000. At no time will KEYS request energy bill payments in-person at the homes of residential customers.

KEYS’ customers should be aware that utility employees will never need to gain access to the interior of private homes for official business on behalf of the utility unless the customer has requested a free home energy survey or made a high bill complaint. KEYS’ employees only access the exterior of properties in order to read electric meters, work on overhead electrical lines, trim trees infringing on electrical lines, or deliver delinquent bill notifications.

Customers are urged to call KEYS at (305) 295-1000 if they have further questions or need verification on the status of individuals claiming to work for the utility.
