12/19/2008 ~ Keys Energy Services (KEYS) recently donated 960 Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs to the Key West Housing Authority (KWHA) to give to the residents of their Senior Citizen Plaza and low income housing units. The CFL bulb donation is intended to target low income residents to help educate them on the cost saves such technology can bring to their monthly energy bills.

“KEYS’ CFL bulb giveaway and recently launched rebate program are made possible through a joint partnership with the Florida Municipal Power Agency and our fellow public power utilities throughout the state,” said Lynne Tejeda, KEYS’ General Manager & CEO. She added that, “in this difficult economy, the residents of the Housing Authority properties will be able to benefit from the cost savings of CFL bulbs on their monthly energy bills when compared to traditional incandescent fixtures.”

Additionally, CFL bulbs will help offset carbon emissions when compared to their incandescent counterparts. One CFL bulb is estimated to help reduce approximately 100 pounds of carbon emissions per year. With the recent donation to the KWHA, KEYS will help offset approximately 96,000 pounds of carbon emissions annually.

KEYS customers are urged to log on to and click on the “Growing Greener Every Day” icon for more information on the rebate program and for tips on how they can conserve energy to further help the environment and save money on their monthly energy bill.
