06/25/2009 ~ Keys Energy Services (KEYS) recently energized a multi-million dollar electrical substation in Stock Island to enhance reliability and support the growing community.

The $2.5-million substation is officially named the Second Street substation to reflect its location on Second Street in Stock Island. The substation has been in the works for the past 10-years, with three of those years being set aside for the design and material procurement.

“The new Second Street substation will provide local capacity and growth potential for Stock Island for well over 30-years and will help to act as a back-up to the US-1 Substation in the event it malfunctions or requires maintenance,” said Lynne Tejeda, KEYS’ General Manager & CEO.

The Second Street substation has a 42-megawatt* capacity, services three electrical feeders, and steps power down from the Transmission Line from 69-kilovolts to 13.8-kilovolts** so it can be utilized by residential and commercial customers. The substation is the ninth substation to be sited within KEYS’ Service Area.
