KEYS’ MICHAEL CAREY TO RETIRE AFTER 29 YEARS OF SERVICE

09/30/2009 ~ On October 1, 2009, Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Michael ‘Blink’ Carey will retire after nearly 30-years of service to the Utility.

Carey has been employed by KEYS since 1980, when City Electric System graced the utilities’ letterhead. Throughout his tenure Carey held numerous positions within the Utility, including Oiler and Auxiliary Operator prior to his current position as General Helper at KEYS’ Stock Island Generation Facility.

When asked about some of the memorable experiences he has experienced at KEYS, Carey stated the, “shutting down of the Steam Plant and evolving from a local generating Utility to one tied in to the mainland power grid,” as one of the most memorable.

In reminiscing about his time at KEYS, Carey attributed the friendships he has forged with his co-workers over the years, and “keeping in good shape both mentally and physically” as the secrets to his longevity.

Carey hopes to do some traveling in the near future, catch up on some reading, and get reacquainted with old friends. A proponent of physical fitness, he is also looking forward to biking and swimming in and around Key West. After a nearly 30-year run at KEYS, he has more than earned the freedom that retirement brings.
