WEAR AND TEAR COURTESY OF PARADISE

09/30/2009 ~ While 25-years is considered young by most standards, Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) steel transmission line (TIELINE) poles tend to be the exception to the rule.

After faithfully supporting the extension cord that went to sea, 30 steel TIELINE poles are undergoing repairs after 25-years of being exposed to the weather elements of the Florida Keys.

The repairs to the steel TIELINE poles are being performed by Valmont Industries, Inc. for an estimated cost of $72,352.00. Valmont is the original manufacturer of the poles and has indicated that once repairs are complete, the poles will once again have the structural strength and integrity of the original design parameters. The repairs consist of sandblasting and metalizing the lower portions of the poles that are near the waterline and where the wear and tear is located.

“Despite the best efforts of KEYS staff to maintain the reliability of our system, Mother Nature is one foe we can not control,” said Lynne Tejeda, KEYS’ General Manager & CEO. She added that, “KEYS works to counter the effects of weather elements on our electric system every day, and the repairs to our TIELINE poles will help ensure the continued reliability of our most important extension cord.”
