KEYS’ SUSANA PLOWMAN TO RETIRE AFTER 40-YEARS OF SERVICE

12/16/2009 ~ On December 31, 2009, Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Susana Plowman will retire after 26-years of continuous service to the Utility. Taking in to account previous years of service, Plowman has contributed nearly 40-years of service to the public power provider for Key West and the Lower Florida Keys.

Plowman was originally hired by KEYS in 1967, but her latest run of service began in 1983. Throughout her tenure Plowman held numerous positions within the Utility, including Head Cashier, Insurance Clerk, and numerous secretarial positions prior to ending her career as Executive Assistant to the General Manager & CEO and Utility Board Secretary.

Reflecting on the biggest changes that took place during her tenure, Plowman said, “the Utility is run more efficiently.” When asked about her most memorable experience at KEYS, Plowman thought back to an incident in the Key West Steam Plant. “When I was working in the Steamplant a boiler exploded and the glass window in my office shook and it was pretty scary when all the black smoke started pouring in to the administrative offices,” said Plowman. She added that, “luckily there were no injuries.”

In reminiscing about her time at KEYS, Plowman will miss seeing her co-workers and friends everyday, and when asked about the secret to her longevity said, “there is no secret, I am just grateful to have been employed by KEYS all of these years.”

Plowman has no immediate post-retirement plans and added that, “it will take awhile to get used to retirement, my husband says I need to slow down to his speed since he’s been retired for seven-years.” Plowman lives in Key West with her husband of 30-years, Houston. She hopes to travel the United States and return to Italy. On the home front, she would like more time to read and tend to her orchids. After a combined total 40-year career at KEYS she has more than earned the right to watch her garden grow.
