UTILITY BOARD MOVES TO CLOSE BIG PINE KEY CUSTOMER SERVICES CENTER

05/03/2010 ~ In an effort to consolidate operations and save approximately $300,000 per year in expenses, the Utility Board recently voted to close Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Big Pine Key Customer Services Center effective Friday, May 28th.

The Center originally opened in April 2001 in order to offer expanded Customer Services at a time when web and phone-based options were not as readily available or accessible. In recent years, the services KEYS offers its customers via the web and phone have greatly increased, and programs such as Electronic Debit have become extremely popular given the convenience of having monthly bills drafted directly from checking/savings accounts or credit cards.

“With the advent of our website and TELELINK phone system, KEYS’ customers are now able to conduct the majority of their business utilizing new technologies while no longer needing access to a brick-and-mortar Customer Services Center,” said Lynne Tejeda, KEYS’ General Manager & CEO. She added that, “those customers still wishing to conduct business in person may do so at KEYS’ Service Building in Key West.”

Through attrition, employees from the Big Pine Office will move into existing positions in the Key West Office and the overall employee count is expected to be reduced by two.
