11/10/2010 ~ As part of ongoing reliability improvements, Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) recently completed upgrades to the electric feeder along College Road on Stock Island which feeds critical community electric loads, including Lower Keys Medical Center and the Monroe County Detention Center.

The College Road project included the replacement of 25 electric poles and represents approximately $320,000 in upgrades to the electric grid. The poles were replaced with ones capable of withstanding category-four hurricane winds in accordance with guidelines set by the Florida Public Service Commission in the wake of the 2004 & 2005 hurricane seasons.

The upgrades are part of KEYS’ multi-year pole restoration project which has worked its way through the Lower Keys and recently entered Key West. Thus far, KEYS has replaced 1,700 poles within the Lower Keys and plans on replacing approximately 500 poles within the City of Key West in 2011.
