11/22/2011 ~ Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Julio J. Barroso was recently tapped to head the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Public Communications Committee at their annual conference in Savannah, Georgia.

APPA’s Public Communications Committee is responsible for organizing and supporting the professional development of public power communicators around the country who serve a combined 46-million consumers. Barroso will serve as Chair of the committee in 2012, with Carolyn Justice-Hinson, Communications & Community Relations Manager for the Public Works Commission of the City of Fayetteville, serving as Vice Chair.

APPA is the Washington, D.C.-based national service organization representing the nation’s more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities who serve 15-percent of the nation’s electric consumers.

Barroso is the Communications/Marketing Coordinator for KEYS and has been with the utility since 2003. He is responsible for coordinating communication and marketing strategies for 29,000 customers and overseeing internal communications for over 130 employees. He has helped KEYS win numerous awards over the years for excellence in communication strategies, including the prestigious Bronze Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America. Additionally, in September he was named one of 60 ‘Rising Stars of Public Power’ by Public Power magazine.
