12/16/2011 ~ On December 30, 2011, Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Milton Dean Roberts, Jr., will retire after 30-years and four months of continuous service to the Utility.

Roberts was originally hired in 1981 when City Electric System still graced the Utility’s letterhead. During his tenure he held numerous positions within the Utility, including Meter Reader, Service Technician, Senior Service Technician, and Meter Reader Leader prior to ending his career as a Service Technician Leader.

Reflecting on the biggest changes that took place during his tenure, Roberts said it would have to be, “going from actually reading meters manually to using remote read technology,” as well as the hiring of, “KEYS’ first female meter reader and service technician.” When asked about his most memorable experience at KEYS, Roberts said it was one he would rather forget when he barely escaped being attached by a pit-bull when he worked in the field.

In reminiscing about his time at KEYS, Roberts said he will miss seeing his co-workers and friends everyday, and when asked about the secret to his longevity said it was due to his, “patience and trying to stay out of trouble.”

In retirement Roberts hopes to dedicate more time to playing golf, co-ed softball, and working on his beloved Mustang as he eases into life as a retiree. After a 30-plus-year career at KEYS he has more than earned the right to follow his own schedule.
