10/29/2012 ~ Keys Energy Services (KEYS) advises its customers that a helicopter-based survey of the Transmission line (Tieline) is scheduled to be conducted November 2nd & 3rd, from 9:00A to 5:00P, from Key West to the Seven-Mile Bridge – weather permitting.

KEYS customers should be aware of the helicopter flying at approximately 700-800 feet near Tieline poles along the US1 Highway, Garrison Bight Harbor to Key West Yacht Club area, Kennedy Drive, and Stock Island – north of US1 Highway and the Key Haven areas. Additionally, residents are advised to drive safely while this survey is in progress, and keep their focus on the road and not the helicopter flying overhead.

The survey is the result of a North American Electric Reliability Corporation requirement that utilities verify that their “original Transmission line design” is representative of the “actual field conditions”. The helicopter-based survey will expedite the process and allow KEYS to better report discrepancies between the design and actual field conditions.

“This requirement is one of many electric utilities coordinate in an effort to ensure the continued reliability of our systems,” said Lynne Tejeda, KEYS’ General Manager & CEO. She went on to add that, “five Florida municipal utilities and the Florida Municipal Power Agency worked together to identify and select the vendor to perform this survey.” Aerial Cartographers of America, Inc. was selected as the vendor for this project, at a total cost to KEYS of $120,700.
