BARROSO COMPLETES TENURE AS HEAD OF NATIONAL PUBLIC POWER COMMITTEE AND EARNS MBA DEGREE IN THE SAME WEEK

10/31/2012 ~ Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Julio J. Barroso recently completed his tenure as head of the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Public Communications Committee at their annual conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, the week of October 21st. Additionally, that same week he completed his studies to earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Saint Leo University.

APPA’s Public Communications Committee is responsible for organizing and supporting the professional development of public power communicators from around the country who serve a combined 46-million consumers. Barroso served as Chair of the committee in 2012 and as Vice Chair in 2011. APPA is the Washington, D.C.-based national service organization representing the nation’s not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities who serve 15-percent of the nation’s electric consumers.

Barroso began his master’s program in the fall of 2010 and completed the last of his 12 classes on October 21st, with a 3.833 final grade-point-average. He opted for a concentration in Human Resource Management within the program in order to better round out his business knowledge and prepare him for future advancement within KEYS. He previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication degree from the University of Miami where he double-majored in Public Relations and International Studies, and minored in Marketing.

Barroso is the Communications/Marketing Coordinator for KEYS and has been with the utility since 2003. He has helped KEYS win numerous awards over the years for excellence in communication strategies, and was named one of 60 ‘Rising Stars of Public Power’ by Public Power magazine in 2011.
