12/15/2003 ~ The Utility Board approved a budget amendment that will allow for renovations to take place in the Customer Service Area of Keys Energy Services (KEYS) Service Building at 1001 James Street.

“Customers will benefit from a more convenient sign up for service area that will increase efficiency while maximizing space constraints,” said general manager Carl Jansen.

“Customers who visit KEYS in January and February will be assisted from temporary office space, but every effort will be made to minimize inconveniences to customers while the improvements are made,” Jansen said.

In other business, the Utility Board

Approved a six-month extension between the Utility Board and Steamplant Condominium, LLC, and Old Town Key West Development, Ltd. to accommodate the withdrawal of the Carlisle Group from the Key West Steam Plant project. As per the contract, the responsibility of the affordable housing construction has been shifted to the developer, who requested a six month extension in order to waive the $5,000 per month penalty for not meeting the deadline. The penalty would have gone into affect this month.

Approved revisions to the Managements Employee Handbook, including the elimination of “Family Illness” and “Doctor’s Appointment” as administrative leaves, effective December 10,2003.

Awarded the bid for the Premium No-Lead 93 Octane Gasoline, Low-Sulfur #2, Diesel, & Dyed Low Sulfur #2 Diesel Fuel (all land deliveries) to Blaylok Oil Co., the best bidder complying with specifications.

Approved a budget amendment that allows for the painting of the Stacks at the Medium Speed Diesel Building on Stock Island.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., December 10th in the Louis Carbonell Board Room of the William Arnold Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West. Due to the Christmas holiday, the next Board meeting will take place January 14, 2004.
