KEYS GOES TO WASHINGTON

03/18/2013 ~ The Utility Board and representatives from Keys Energy Services (KEYS) recently traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with members of the United States House of Representatives and Senate and to discuss issues relevant to the Public Power sector and KEYS’ customers. The meetings were part of the annual American Public Power Association (APPA) Legislative Rally when public power utility representatives from around the country converge on the nation’s capitol to address the issues confronting the public power industry.

Issues discussed during the Legislative Rally included: implementation of reasonable legislation regarding public power’s access to tax-exempt financing; supporting environmental regulations with timelines and targets that ensure a reliable and affordable energy supply; legislative action pertaining to cyber security; and consideration of Surface Transportation Board reform to improve reliability and cost of railway transportation of coal.

APPA serves the nation’s more than 2,000 community and state-owned electric utilities that provide electricity to 47-million people.
