07/30/2013 ~ Utility Board Chairman Lou Hernandez was recently honored by two statewide agencies for his service and contributions to the electric utility industry in the State of Florida.

The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) bestowed Hernandez with an honorary membership to the organization in recognition of his statewide leadership on electric utility issues. The Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) honored Hernandez for his service to the FMPA and its Board of Directors, having completed four-terms as its Secretary.

Hernandez is a four-term Utility Board member and former executive director of Helpline, a 24-hour social-service referral non-profit agency. He has announced he will not seek re-election once his term expires in the fall.

*The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) represents the unified interests of 34 public power communities across the state, which provide electricity to more than three-million of Florida’s residential and business consumers.

*The Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) is a wholesale power company owned by 31 municipal electric utilities. FMPA provides economies of scale in power generation and related services to support community-owned electric utilities. The members of FMPA serve approximately two-million Floridians.
