10/17/2013 ~ Keys Energy Services (KEYS) advises its customers that contractors for the utility are working to inspect the Transmission Line (TIELINE) pole foundations for all utility poles installed in the in the near shore waters within its service area (Key West to the Seven-Mile Bridge). The project began in early October and is scheduled to be complete by December 17, 2013.

KEYS customers should be aware of this project and the likelihood that they will see workers and their support vessels near utility poles, with certified divers inspecting poles beneath the waterline. Approximately 546 TIELINE pole structures are scheduled to be inspected during the course of the project.

The project is the result of KEYS continued efforts to maintain the long-term reliability of electricity in the corrosive marine environment of the Florida Keys. “We routinely inspect all of our utility poles above ground, but this is the first-ever inspection of our poles underwater,” said Lynne Tejeda, KEYS’ General Manager & CEO. She went on to add that, “the results of these inspections will help KEYS prioritize future capital improvements to ensure our continued reliability of service to our customers.” Ayers Associates was selected as the contractor for this project, at a total estimated cost to KEYS of $214,000.
