APPA PRESIDENT AND CEO SPENDS FIRST DAY ON THE JOB IN PARADISE

04/01/2014 ~ Sue Kelly, the new President and CEO of the American Public Power Association (APPA), spent her first official day on the job in paradise. Kelly was attending the Transmission Access Policy Study (TAPS) Group’s spring 2014 conference in Key West, Fla., when her tenure officially began on April 1st as head of the trade association that serves 2,000 public power systems in 49 states – including Keys Energy Services (KEYS).

During her stay in Key West, Kelly took time to tour KEYS’ recently dedicated Transmission & Distribution complex and meet with personnel to discuss KEYS’ response to severe weather events and how the utility addresses state and federal regulations.

Kelly has served with APPA since 2004 and was previously General Counsel and Senior Vice President for Policy Analysis. APPA is the national service organization for the nation’s community- and state-owned not-for-profit electric utilities. APPA members serve a population of over 47 million people, representing approximately 15 percent of all power customers in the U.S.

TAPS is an association of transmission-dependent electric utilities – that is, utilities that rely on transmission facilities owned by others to serve their loads. TAPS focuses on transmission and open access, market power and reliability issues that are crucial to the competitive viability of small systems and to the creation and maintenance of truly competitive wholesale markets for the benefit of all electric consumers. TAPS members are located in more than 35 states and meet each spring and fall at member sites to discuss strategies and issues of common interest. The Florida Municipal Power Agency and KEYS helped coordinate the spring 2014 conference in Key West.
