01/26/2004 ~ The Utility Board established discount for residential customers who are either qualifying Senior Citizens or Disabled American Veterans is now open for enrollment and/or requalification for previous applicants.

The discount is an exemption from the $6.00 Customer Charge which normally appears on each residential bill. There are currently 200 Keys Energy Services (KEYS) customers receiving this discount.

In order to qualify for the Senior Citizen Discount, the customer of record must be at least 62 years of age on the date of application. In order to qualify for the Disabled American Veterans Discount, the customer of record must be a totally or permanently disabled American Veteran on the date of application.

Annual income for the residential household must not exceed $21,900 for 2004. The maximum household income normally increases slightly each year.

An application for the discount must be completed and signed by the customer of record. The application must be notarized if not completed at KEYS.

Previously approved applicants are required to re-qualify between January 1st and March 31st of each year. Applicants that do not re-qualify are removed from the program on April 1st of each year.

KEYS mails a letter of explanation and a new application to all previously approved applicants in January. New applicants may pick-up a form at the William Arnold Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West, or call (305) 295-1000 to request a form be sent via mail.
