01/26/2004 ~ Bobby Burchett, Instrumentation & Electrical (I & E) technician, has been named Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Outstanding Employee of the First Quarter for 2004.

Burchett has worked for the utility for 16 years and has held his current position within KEYS throughout most of his tenure. He is responsible for maintaining and modifying all electrical and control systems on all KEYS generation equipment.

Chuck Finlayson, I & E leader, said Burchett has, “an excellent ability to troubleshoot and modify complex control systems, and when there is a problem he works quickly and efficiently to restore the equipment.”

Finlayson added that Burchett is, “very well liked by the employees he works with, and I believe this is a result of his quality of character and his genuine like for them,” and singled out his ability to inspire cooperation and productivity among his co-workers as an example of his great character.

Burchett says he enjoys his job because of the daily challenge it presents and the ability it affords him to work together with his co-workers.

The Employee of the Quarter Committee selects an employee four times a year for this award. Employees are considered for the award after being nominated by their peers or supervisors. Final selection of the outstanding employee is based on seven criteria, which include attendance, attitude, efficiency, initiative, and job performance.

Heather Arencibia, chairperson of the Employee of the Quarter Committee, said that Burchett came highly recommended from his supervisor, director, and fellow employees throughout KEYS because of his expansive technical knowledge and strong work ethic. She added that his congenial personality helped to further secure his selection as the Employee of the Quarter.

Burchett was born and raised in Key West and graduated from Key West High School and Florida Keys Community College. He and his wife Jane have two children, twins Michael and Feryn Burchett, both 17 years old.

In his spare time, Burchett enjoys spending time with his family, working on and riding motorcycles, playing with his yellow Labrador named KC, working on home projects, and traveling in the mountains of North Carolina.

The Utility Board will recognize Burchett as the Outstanding Employee of the First Quarter for 2004 and present him with a $100 bonus during their regular meeting on January 28th. His name will be engraved on a plaque that hangs in the William Arnold Service Building lobby, and he will receive an extra day off.
