KEYS’ JAMES NEWTON TO RETIRE AFTER 32-YEARS OF SERVICE

12/19/2014 ~ On December 31, 2014, Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) James Newton, will retire after 32-years and 4-months of continuous service to the Utility.

Newton was originally hired in 1982 when City Electric System still graced the side of the Utility’s trucks. During his tenure he held numerous positions within the Utility, including Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Line Leader, Journey Lineman, and Apprentice Lineman, prior to completing his career as a T&D Supervisor.

When asked about his most memorable experiences at KEYS, Newton cited assisting with restoration efforts in Homestead in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew. He cited working, “with an across the board age group of co-workers,” as one of the biggest changes he has experienced during his tenure.

In reminiscing about his time at KEYS, Newton said he will miss seeing his co-workers every day. When asked about the secret to his longevity he said, “there’s an old saying that says find something you enjoy doing and you will never work a day in your life – this job was very close to that.”

Newton and his wife of 38-years Luvenia live in Key West and have raised two children, Olympia and James III, in the southernmost city.

In retirement Newton hopes to vacation, enjoy his photography hobby, and enjoy seven-day weekends before his wife starts giving him “honey-do” lists. After over a 32-year career at KEYS he has more than earned some down time.
