02/11/2004 ~ The Utility Board approved additional work on Combustion Turbine (CT) #1 to General Electric (GE) Preco and Denbeck & Associates in the amount of $115,252.

On February 2nd & 3rd, Dan Cassel, Keys Energy Services (KEYS) generation director and David Schumann from the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA), traveled to the General Electric shop in Houston, Texas. During the visit, additional work was identified that will be required on CT #1.

In order to keep the project on schedule and avoid premium and overtime costs, GE Preco has been given the authority to proceed with the work, with Denbeck providing technical assistance.

“This will be a routine, to-be expected, maintenance procedure on a unit under the stress of the humid weather afforded by the Florida Keys,” said KEYS general manager Carl Jansen.

The total cost of the CT #1 overall is $590,000. The unit provides 20 megawatts of the local generation available by KEYS.

In other business, the Board:

- Approved reducing the number of authorized positions from 154 to 153 by deleting the Continuous Emissions Monitoring Technician (CEM Technician) position, due to technology improvements and employee input, and combining its duties with the existing Instrument and Electrical Technician position. The employee who currently holds the position of CEM Technician will be permanently reclassified as an Instrument and Electrical Technician, as this was his previous title and position before CEM Technician, and it is also at the same pay range.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., February 11th, in the Louis Carbonell Board Room of the William Arnold Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West.
